Hurray, hurray, was heard from St Peter's Square on Saturday afternoon, with Top of Town about to begin. With such a variety of age groups keen to start proceedings, no one was disappointed at the end of the day! From the Baghdaddies to Never Mind the Bocs, Nawari Dancers to Liverpool Samba School, Dr Jazz and Meinir Gwilym - there were enough groups to entertain the crowd.
The youngsters faces were great to see when Meinir Gwilym arrived on stage, and the number of mobile phone cameras was in abundance on St Peter's Square.
The sun shone throughout the afternoon, and the fun and frivolity was clear to see on the children's faces. With the sound of the steel drums, guitars, flutes, saxophone, bells and a triangle - the clapping of hands escalated into the late afternoon. And as everyone stood to tap their feet to the rhythm of the song, the event portrayed its importance to bringing a whole community together in the town. Top of Town was again a highlight of the Festival, and let's hope for a similar, if not better Festival for 2007.
The Festival would not be held without the hard work and determination of the steering committee - a small team of hard working volunteers. We are extremely grateful to them all.
