Ruthin Festival 2006
 |
The Classical concert has established itself as one of the highlights of the Festival, and with three Welsh groups performing this year, the stakes were high. The three performers were soprano Fflur Wyn, the percussionist Dewi Ellis Jones and the string quartet Celticana - the evening was one to remember. With Theatr John Ambrose full, the variety and standard of the music performed was second to none. Fflur Wyn mesmerised the audience with her magnificent voice, in contrast, Dewi Ellis Jones danced from one side of the stage to the other with his 12 foot marimba. Celticana then rekindled the classical atmosphere in unison. With a huge applause, the evening ended much too soon. |
| Dewi Ellis Jones also held workshops during the week, offering pupils the opportunity to learn more about percussion, instruments such as drums, bongo, xylophone and the marimba. The pupils response to the |
|
workshops were fantastic, with many of them keen to learn more about the particular instrument they played. As Dewi himself is a young lad, he developed a great relationship with the youngsters. |
| A first for this year, was an informal dance, song and meal evening, branded a Celtic Cabaret on the Friday evening. Pentennyn, a Welsh folk group from Mold entertained the crowd, with Scottish Folk band The Tannahill Weavers sharing the stage. The evening was a hit, with food, music and the 'twmpath' dance guided by Pentennyn, enticing everyone to the floor. The traditional Scottish sounds were astounding, and all five performers portrayed their professionalism on stage. Following cheese from Wales, Patchwork paté and a sip of wine, the evening ended too soon. |
