Ruthin Festival 2006

A spectacular Festival was held in 2006, with singing and dancing in abundance throughout the week. There were many highlights during the week, including the Jazz evening, The Senior Citizens Concert, the Classical Concert and, of course, Top of Town, reaching mind-boggling heights.

The Festival opened with the international group from Rajasthan, The Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, filling Theatr John Ambrose with colour, rhythm and dance. The Festival was officially opened by one of the locals, The Assembly's Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport, Alun Pugh.  The evening was a delight, filled with rhythmic drum beats, sensational chanting, and the audience on their feet dancing with the band at the end of the performance. The Head of Music at Ysgol Brynhyfryd said that the pupils that participated in a workshop later in the week were enthralled by Jaipur Kawa's performance.

The partnership nurtured with the North Wales Jazz Society during the last few years, has become one of the highlights of the week, and in 2006, this was no different. Every ticket was sold and Ruthin Castle was filled to the brim to the alluring sound of the saxophone. The Tenor Saxophonist, Scott Hamilton is one of the masters of his field, and has performed in clubs and festivals across the world. It was a great honour for Ruthin Festival to welcome such an accomplished artist. The audience was captivated and the evening was deemed a resounding success.

It was a great honour to be a part of the concert held in Canolfan Awelon, Ruthin on Wednesday afternoon. With elderly ladies and gentlemen filling the room to the brim, Harriet Earis arrived with her Celtic harp to entertain the crowd. It was abundantly clear from the faces in the crowd, that Harriet had succeeded in swooning the guests, with her sweet sounding stringed instrument. With a smile on her face, the traditional folk songs played ensured a wonderful afternoon was had by all, followed by a well deserved cup of tea.
